A long search is often the same errors on repeat. Fix the process before you decide the market is closed to you, or closed to your country. It usually is not. It is closed to an untailored file sent to jobs that cannot hire you.
Applying to every remote title. You cannot tailor. Pick two titles for two weeks.
One resume for every job. The teaching file will not read as support. Duplicate it, then edit the top and the bullets.
Ignoring where they can hire. A beautiful application to a US-only employee role, sent from abroad, is a month you do not get back. Read the constraint first.
Hiding your country. Some people delete the city because they fear bias. A company that cannot pay you there will reject you later anyway. A company that wants Latin America or a worldwide contractor needs the country in order to say yes. Put it on the resume and on LinkedIn.
A headline from your old field. Recruiters search titles. The headline is the title you want this month.
No interview stories until the night before. Build three this week. Use the STAR article.
Treating silence as a verdict on your worth. Many posts never reply. Track sends. No replies at all is a resume or title problem. Replies and then no final round is a different problem.
Paying to be considered. Legitimate employers do not charge you to apply, to unlock the job, or to buy equipment from them. Stop and read how to identify remote job scams.
Waiting for a visa before you have a job. If you already live where you want to stay, you need an employer, not a nomad stamp. Visas are for the move, and they are explained in the visa piece.
Four questions before the next send
- Could a stranger tell the job title from the first two lines?
- Is every tool you claim something you could show this week?
- Do the dates match LinkedIn, including months?
- Did you leave a required field blank because the resume "covers it"?
If any answer is no, fix it before you open the next tab. The tailoring guide is the longer version. After ten applications you should see whether the misses are the title, the file, or the kind of company. "The market is bad" after three untailored sends is how a year disappears. Resume score is there so structure is not the thing blocking you.
